TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Deputy Oil Minister Akbar Torkan said here Saturday that to generate 1,000 dollars in GDP, 1.7 million tons of oil ($900) are used.

Torkan told the 9th Scientific Seminar and the Second Exhibition of Railway Transit that each ton of oil is equal to seven barrels of oil and since each barrel of oil is sold for about 80 dollars some 1.7 tons of oil make a revenue of over 900 dollars.
He predicted that daily consumption of oil would reach 23.2 million barrels in the next 18 years.
""If no remarkable investment is made by the year 2025, it would be impossible to manage the country with a daily production of 4.2 million tons of oil. Energy consumption in different economic sectors needs to be reviewed,"" he said.
He said 300 gigawatts/hour energy are supplied to power plants and 26 gigawatts to the industry sector in Iran.
Each hour of energy consumption in the Commonwealth of Independent States stands at 390 BTU, in Sweden at 120 BTU and in Iran at 500 BTU, said Torkan, adding that energy consumption in only five months of the year in Iran is at a high level.
He added that household energy consumption in Iran during the cold season stands at 500 BTU.
He went on to say that auto fuel consumption is many times as high as the global standards.
He stressed the need for making fuel price more logical than the past.
