TEHRAN -- Mahmud Farshchian’s latest miniature work “Shams and Rumi” was transferred to Sadabad Cultural Historical Complex on Friday for a one-year show.
The work had been unveiled during the opening ceremony of the Shams of Academy of Arts exhibit, which was held at Tehran’s Palestine Museum of Contemporary Art in late October to commemorate the 800th birth anniversary of Rumi.“Shams and Rumi” has been inspired by one of Rumi’s poems. Special colors have been used in the painting to feature the mystical and spiritual relationship that existed between Shams and Rumi.
According to Farshchian, the work, which took two months to complete, was his way of introducing Rumi’s national identity to the world.
It is necessary to use cultural strategies in the fight against countries, particularly Arab states, which plan to attribute to themselves the luminaries of the Iranian nation, he had once explained.
A number of Arab countries and Turkey depict Rumi in pictures showing him clad in Turkish or Arab costumes.
A collection of Farshchian’s works were stolen from Sadabad complex two years ago, and Farshchian had once announced that he would not display any of his works at the venue before the robbery case is clear. The case is not clear yet, but his work went on display
