NICOSIA (Xinhua) -- Visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov urged on Sunday all sides concerned to break the stalemate on Cyprus problem and work out a mutually acceptable solution.

""In order to be successful we must not look for who is to blame"" for the impasse, said Lavrov, adding ""we must urge all parties to find a mutually accepted settlement.""
He made the remarks after meeting with his Cypriot counterpart Erato Kozakou Marcoullis in Nicosia.
Lavrov underlined Russia's opposition to the imposition of deadlines by third parties for the settlement of the Cyprus problem and the Kosovo issue, adding only the parties concerned can determine the time frames.
The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on Middle East and Iraq, discussed ways for strengthening stability in the Mediterranean area and in the Balkans.
Lavrov said that Russia and Cyprus share common positions on many issues.
Marcoullis, on her part, expressed the gratitude of the Cyprus government and people for the unreserved support of Russia and the Russian people for a Cyprus settlement based on the international law, the UN Charter and the Security Council resolutions.
Both ministers agreed that the two countries enjoy excellent traditional relations in all fields.
Lavrov arrived in Cyprus Sunday afternoon for a two-day official visit. He is expected to meet Cypriot President Tassos Papandopoulos and Parliament Speaker Dimitris Christofias.
Russian officials said Lavrov's visit was aimed at the development of the active political dialogue on a wide range of bilateral and international issues, including the Cypriot settlement.
For several decades, the United Nations has continuously worked to persuade Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities to find a viable solution. But no breakthrough has been made so far.
