TEHRAN -- Iran’s “Where Is the Friend’s Home” is among the top ten films of the 1980s as selected by British film critic Philip French.

Directed by celebrated Iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami, “Where Is the Friend’s Home” is about an 8-year-old boy who must return his friend’s notebook he took by mistake lest his friend be punished by expulsion from school.
“The Iranian cinema arrives in challenging and uncompromising form,” French wrote in a review published on The Observer website on April 13.
French has worked for The Observer for 30 years.
“Raging Bull” (Martin Scorsese), “Ran” (Akira Kurosawa), and “Blue Velvet” (David Lynch) are some of the other films on French’s top-ten list.
