TEHRAN, May 18 (MNA) -- Russia’s proposal that the 5+1 group give Iran security guarantees is irrelevant, Iranian MP Heshmatolh Falahatpisheh told the Mehr News Agency here on Sunday.

The 5+1 group is the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council -- Russia, the United States, China, Britain, France -- and Germany.
The six powers negotiating with Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program could offer Tehran security guarantees, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters on Wednesday.
“I think the ‘Six’ could make the following step: directly put concrete offers on the negotiating table, give Iran security guarantees and ensure a more distinguished place in negotiations on the situation in the Middle East,” Reuters quoted Lavrov as saying.
Falahatpisheh, who sits on the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, advised the 5+1 group to make efforts to rescind the resolutions the UN Security Council has imposed on Iran to demonstrate their “goodwill” for negotiations.
The United States said on Wednesday that the 5+1 group had no plans to offer Iran security guarantees to encourage it to suspend uranium enrichment, hours after Russia floated the idea.

MP Reza Talaii-Nik also dismissed the security guarantee offer and called it an “indirect and tacit threat” that is meant to set the stage for additional pressure.
Talaii-Nik, who also sits on the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, criticized Russia for its “covert efforts” to compel Tehran to halt its uranium enrichment program.
He said he believes that Russia, despite its rhetoric, does not want to see Iran’s nuclear program make progress.
The 5+1 group last week offered a package of incentives to Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment, which the West fears might be used to build nuclear weapons.
However, Tehran denies the claims and has repeatedly refused to halt uranium enrichment.
