TEHRAN – Former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has expressed Berlin’s interest in expansion of relations with the Islamic Republic.

In a meeting with outgoing Iranian ambassador to Germany Mohammad-Mehdi Akhundzadeh, Schroeder said an expanded relation between the two states could help promote peace in the region.
Akhundzadeh said, “International and regional developments as well as the two states’ potential require Tehran and Berlin to further bolster bilateral ties.”
Schroeder also expressed willingness to visit Iran and hold talks with Iranian officials.
Iranian Foreign Minister Manucher Mottaki earlier this month traveled to Germany and held talks with senior German officials on the latest regional and international developments
