Damascus hosting Iranian cultural festival
TEHRAN -- Damascus is currently playing host to an Iranian cultural festival which will run until December 25.Iranian films “Maturity” by Masud Jafari Jozani, “The Sun Shines on All” by Abbas Rafei, “Report Card Day” by Masud Keramati and “Robin” by Parviz Sheikh Tari are being shown in Damascus’s theaters during the event.
Books, handicrafts and visual arts created by Iranian artists are on display during the exhibition. In addition, Bidel band conducted by Hessameddin Seraj has several performances scheduled during the week.
TMCA to screen LaBute’s “Wicker Man”
TEHRAN -- “The Wicker Man” by American director Neil LaBute will go on screen at the cinematheque of Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts (TMCA) on December 24.
The film is the story of an American police officer’s investigations into his daughter’s disappearance on the isolated island of Summersisle in Washington, whose inhabitants belong to a matriarchal pagan cult.
Iraqi documentaries coming to Fajr festival
TEHRAN -- Documentaries by Iraqi filmmakers will go on screen in the International Section of the 27th Fajr International Film Festival that will be held from February 1 to 11, 2009 at various Tehran theaters.
Iraqi documentaries “Dr. Nabil” by Ahmed Jabbar, “Omar Is My Friend” and “Staying” by Manaf Shakir, “A Candle for Shabandar Café” by Emad Ali, “A Stranger in His Own Country” by Hassanain al-Hani, “Leaving” by Bahram al-Zuhairi, and “Let the Show Begin” by Dhafir Taleb will go on screen during the gala.
The documentaries are on the theme of the invasion of Iraq by American-led coalition forces and civilians’ calamities during recent years..
