TEHRAN – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that the Iranian nation and the country’s Islamic system will not give in to lawlessness “at any cost” on the presidential election results.
“I have insisted and will insist on implementing the law in issues related the presidential election, and the Islamic system and people will not give in to pressure at any cost,” he said in a meeting with MPs in Tehran. He stated that a disregard for the law could result in the emergence of the “spirit of dictatorship” and so everyone must respect the law.
The elites are expected to respect the law and if they do not do so, then nobody can expect people to observe the law, Ayatollah Khamenei added.
He also thanked the parliament for its stance toward the post-election dispute.
In a letter sent to the Supreme Leader on Sunday, members of the parliament expressed their gratitude to the Leader for his “timely and illuminating” remarks at the Friday prayers.
Addressing hundreds of thousands of people at the most recent Friday prayers in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei urged all groupings to end their street protests and to pursue their complaints through legal channels.
During the meeting Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said the Guardian council has the final say in the dispute over the June 12 presidential election.
MPs believe the row over the election result could only be resolved through legal action and lawmakers are opposed to any violation of the law, he added.
