Iran defeats Gambia in FIFA U-17 World Cup

CALABAR - Iran beat Gambia in its opening game of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup on Sunday.
Iran, which has been drawn in Group C, defeated Gambia 2-0. Payam Sadeghian scored in the 44th minute.Kaveh Rezaei doubled the scoreboard in the 84th minute.Colombia and the Netherlands are in this group as well.
The team, coached by Ali Doosti-Mehr, is scheduled to play Colombia on Wednesday.
A total of 24 teams have been divided into six groups each consisting of four teams.
The two top places in each group plus the four best third-placed teams will advance to the knockout phase.
The 13th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup kicked off on Saturday and will be finished on November 15. Matches will be played in nine cities across Nigeria
