TEHRAN – The Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, has said that Iran is grateful to Cuba for its courageous support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
“Taking such positions, in defense of the principles of the International (Atomic Energy) Agency, in an objection to the impudent policies of the Western governments is valuable,” he said in a meeting with the Cuban Ambassador to Tehran, William Carbo Ricardo, on Sunday.Boroujerdi added that independent countries can play an important role in the international arena.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the MP emphasized that the sanctions on Iran are against the international rules and regulations.
“The scientific and industrial advances of the Islamic Republic of Iran are indications of the impotence of the sanctions,” he explained.
Boroujerdi also expressed satisfaction over the current level of ties between Tehran and Havana, adding that parliamentary relations can pave the way for boosting mutual ties. The Cuban ambassador, for his part, stated that Iran and Cuba enjoy “firm ties.”
He also criticized the self-proclaimed standard-bearers of human rights and pointed out that the major powers are not taking efficient steps in campaign against terrorism.
The policies of these countries have always helped promote terrorism in the world, he said
