TEHRAN -- The English version of Habib Ahmadzadeh’s “A Letter to the Saad Family” was published in the November edition of American World Literature Today bimonthly magazine.

This is the first time that this 80-year-old magazine of international literature and culture has published an Iranian short story. “A Letter to the Saad Family” has been translated into English by Paul Sprachman.
The magazine announced that the story was selected from among three acclaimed works by Habibzadeh, the other two “Neneh” and “Eagle Feather”, since it is the shortest story appropriate for the journal.
“This is a real story that could happen again anywhere in the world—the tragedy of soldiers who do not know each other's real conditions. Whether the grieving mother is American or Afghani, her sorrow is the same. Only by understanding this can we begin to understand each other and attain true peace,” the editors of the magazine added to his story as the foreword.
The story won third prize at the Writing Forge Short Story Competition in Britain last month. Other books by Ahmadzadeh that have previously appeared in English include “A City under Siege” and “Chess with the Doomsday Machine” which were all translated by Paul Sprachman.
The mission of the University of Oklahoma’s magazine, World Literature Today, is to serve the international, state, and university communities by achieving excellence as a literary publication, a sponsor of literary prizes, and a cultural center for students
