TEHRAN - A Foreign Ministry official says Iran has not only presented the idea of making the Middle East a nuclear weapons-free zone, it has also introduced the initiative to eradicate all weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), including nuclear weapons, in the world.

He made the remarks on Wednesday in response to Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Ali Aboul Gheit who had recently compared Iran’s peaceful nuclear program with the Zionist regime’s nuclear program.
He added, “Aboul Gheit must note that the danger which is threatening the interests of the regional people and governments is the Zionist regime’s (possession of) over 200 (nuclear) warheads on which there is no international supervision and comparing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s peaceful (nuclear) activities with (Israel’s nuclear program) is an illogical and unprincipled thing to do.”
The official also commented on Iran’s attempts toward creating a world free of nuclear weapons, saying, “The motto of the international conference on nuclear disarmament in Tehran was nuclear energy for all, nuclear weapons for no one.”
The conference was held on April 17 and 18. A number of major international figures, nuclear experts, and foreign ministers as well as representatives of international and non-governmental organizations attended the conference
