350,000 women die annually in childbirth

Christy Turlington Burns and her group ""Every Mother Counts"" report that about 350,000 women die in labor or delivery annually. 90 percent of those deaths, however, are preventable.

Health problems during pregnancy are the top cause of death for teenage girls (age 15 to 19) in the developing world.
