TEHRAN - Iran’s Judiciary spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei has announced that rulings will soon be issued for three U.S. citizens, who were arrested in Iran in 2009.

Mohseni-Ejei, who is also the national prosecutor general, made the remarks in an interview with Al-Alam News Network broadcast on July 31 after the last trial session of U.S. citizens.
Sarah Shourd, Shane Bauer, and Joshua Fattal were arrested by border guards on July 31, 2009 after illegally entering Iran’s territory from Iraq’s Kurdistan region. The three have been charged with illegal entry and espionage.
Shourd was released from prison on bail of $500,000 on September 14, 2010.
The U.S. citizens’ lawyer, Masoud Shafiee, told AFP on July 31 that the verdict should be issued within a week.
“The court session ended, the judge announced the end of proceedings, I did a complete defense, Josh and Shane did so also and I also defended Sarah. The court will issue its ruling in a week,” Shafiee said.
Shafiee also told Reuters on July 31 that the verdicts will be announced “by next week the latest.”
According to AFP, the families of three U.S. citizens have issued a statement in New York, calling for clemency.
