TEHRAN – Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani has said that the Western countries seek to impose their own version human rights on other counties.

It is required to be familiar with the “existing presuppositions” in the area of the human rights to reach a “common understanding” of the issue, he said during a meeting with Cherif Bassiouni, an international law expert, in Tehran on Sunday.

Contrary to the Western countries’ propaganda, Iran’s judiciary system is “independent” and within the framework of Islamic laws, he said.

He also criticized the West’s double standards on human rights.

Bassiouni, for his part, expressed satisfaction over his trip to Iran and called for more dialogue on human rights.
