TEHRAN - The spokesman of the Iranian Judiciary has said that Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian has received an imprisonment sentence.

“The case has been given a verdict, which has not been announced to the accused or his lawyer yet. I cannot talk about the details, but I can say… he has been given imprisonment and that the verdict is not final yet,” Qolamhossein Mohseni Ejei said on Sunday in a press conference, ISNA reported.

Rezaian was arrested together with his wife, Yeganeh Salehi, in July 2014.

Among other things, he was charged with espionage, propagating a Western-friendly attitude at executive levels in the Iranian government, and preparing lists for Western powers of Iranian entities that needed to be put under economic sanctions.
