TEHRAN -- If a society has cultural problems, the soul of society will die and without a soul, there would be no humanity, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad mentioned.

In a meeting with cultural figures, artists and literati on Tuesday night, Ahmadinejad talked about the importance of art in society.

He called art the “backbone of culture” saying that the beauty of history becomes permanent when it is expressed through the language of art.

“Love is the foundation of art that originates from freedom. The art which expresses love toward human beings, freedom, and dignity is permanent,” he said.

He said that those artists who want to create lasting artworks for their society should show horizons that are more sublime to their society.

He also talked about state support for artists by the government, after which artists and cultural figures discussed their problems during the session..
