Candidates register for parliamentary vote

TEHRAN – Candidates began registering on Saturday for the parliamentary elections, which will be held on March 2, 2012.The Iranian Interior Ministry election headquarters has announced that the registration will last one week after which the Guardian Council will start vetting the candidates. The candidates, who gain the approval of the Guardian Council, will run for parliament’s 290 seats.
According to the law, the candidates should adhere to the Constitution, the principles of the Islamic system and velayat-e faqih (rule of the supreme jurisprudent), and should have a master’s degree or a qualification which is equivalent to a master’s degree.
