TABRIZ - Dr. Asghar Shahabi, the president of medical committee of Asian Weightlifting Federation, passed away at age 70 on Wednesday. 

The veteran Iranian sports official suffered a heart attack during the Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships 2011 and went into a coma on September 9 in Thailand. 

Shahabi was taken to Iran on October 4 and passed away in Tabriz’s Shams Hospital Wednesday morning.
