“100 Works, 100 Artists” coming to Golestan Gallery on Friday

TEHRAN – The 25th edition of the exhibit “100 Works, 100 Artists” will open at the Golestan Gallery in Tehran on July 21.

Works by 257 artists have been selected to go on display, with each artist displaying one work, gallery director Lili Golestan said in a press release published on Saturday.

Like the previous editions, a variety of artworks selected from about 500 interested artists from across the country will be offered for reasonable prices at the exhibit, she said.

Based on the regulations of the exhibit, the items sold will be removed and replaced with new ones created by the same artists.

“Several years after I opened the gallery, I would meet a number of visitors each summer who had come to spend their summer and wanted to buy artworks,” Golestan once said about the process that led to the founding of the exhibit.

“But since the gallery was closed in summer they used to ring the door bell at my home. After a while, I thought to myself since I am on the way from home to the gallery during summer, why not hold a summer exhibit so that people can buy what they want. It was then that the idea of the exhibit “100 Works, 100 Artists” emerged, starting with exactly 100 artists and 100 works in 1992,” she explained.

“The first exhibit was warmly received and the number of participating artists has increased ever since. As a result, the gallery is filled with artworks from the floor to the ceiling every year,” she remarked.

The exhibit will be running until August 16. The gallery can be found at 34 Kamasai St. in the Darus neighborhood.
