Marivan Intl. Street Theater Festival opens

TEHRAN – The 12th Marivan International Street Theater Festival opened in the northwestern Iranian city of Marivan today while Iran was celebrating Eid al-Ghadir, the day on which Imam Ali (AS) was appointed as successor to the Prophet Muhammad (S).

Troupes from Iran with thespians clad in traditional costumes and a number of groups from other countries attended a parade from Sarbaz Square to Shanu Park to announce the beginning of the four-day event, the organizers announced.

Over 40 plays will be performed in the various categories of the festival. A jury composed of actor/director Qotbeddin Sadeqi, theater scholar Farindokht Zahedi and actor/writer Kurosh Zahedi, all from Iran, is judging the performances.
