Iranian artists top at Germany’s EXILE cartoon contest

TEHRAN – Iranian cartoonists Saman Torabi and Abbas Nasseri took the first and third places respectively at the EXILE International Cartoon Contest in Essen, Germany, the organizers announced on Sunday.

Torabi received the prize for his “Hello Europe” created in 2015.

Anne Derenne from Spain won second prize in the contest, which is also known as A place. Somewhere - 
International Cartoon Competition.

The contest is organized on refugees and migrants every year by EXILE-Kulturkoordination – a non-profit organization for intercultural and international projects in the fields of education and culture.

The organization holds the competition in collaboration with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and several other institutions, including Engagement Global, a German non-profit limited organization that supports and strengthens the developmental commitment of the civil society.

The winners were selected from among 671 submissions by 319 cartoonists from 64 countries.

A selection of the works will put on display in a traveling exhibition.
