First Batch of Iranian Athletes to Leave for Sydney on Sept. 9

BEIJING The first group of Iranian sportsmen will leave for Sydney on September 9 for the 2000 Olympic Games in Australia.
Secretary of Iran's Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Federation Vahid Moradi who monitored the 14th Asia-Pacific Swimming and Diving Championship in Taiwan, told IRNA in Beijing over the phone that three Iranian sports teams will participate in the Sydney Olympic Games.
The Sydney Olympics will open on September 15 and will last till October 1. A total of 40 Iranian athletes are due to participate in the games.
Iran's swimming and diving teams stood at the 9th place in the Asia-Pacific championship held in Taiwan, by bagging two gold, one silver and six bronze medals.
