Mubarak: Postponement of Mideast Peace Deal Deadline Possible

CAIRO Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Sunday he viewed a postponement of the September 13 deadline for the conclusion of a final Israeli-Palestinian peace accord as possible.
Speaking in Cairo, Mubarak said reaching a solution was desirable to avoid a possible outbreak of Israeli-Palestinian violence.
He said he hoped and was convinced that it was possible to reach an agreement before the deadline expires or postpone the date.
Palestinian President Yasser Arafat toured Arab countries last week and was also in Europe.
Arafat has also visited Russia to rally support for his plan to declare an independent Palestinian state should the two sides fail to reach a peace accord by September 13, the date originally envisaged.
Mubarak in a newspaper interview Saturday warned that concessions by the Arab-Islamic world over Bait-ul-Moqaddas could lead to an explosion of violence. He told the influential Cairo weekly newspaper Ros el Yussuf that no Arab leader could be expected to relinquish control of East Bait-ul-Moqaddas or the Al Aqsa Mosque.
