TEHRAN – Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) has managed to finally finish the dredging operation of the Ashuradeh channel of Bandar-e Torkaman (a port on the Caspian Sea, three kilometers west of Bandar Torkaman City in northeastern Golestan province), an official with the organization announced.

According to Saeid Hassan-Abbasi, the head of TPO’s Civil Engineering and Project Supervision Department, in this operation 1.42 million cubic meters of dredging was done along 11 kilometers, the PMO portal reported.

With the reopening of the channel, a volume of about 1.5 billion cubic meters of seawater will enter the Shuradeh Bay, and within two to three weeks, the level of seawater and the bay will be aligned, the official said.

By the end of the year, additional environmental measures such as revitalization of vegetation on 100 hectares of land and monitoring of water quality parameters of Gorgan Bay will also be carried out as part of the project.
