TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian congratulated Qatar on its National Day, expressing hope for broader strategic cooperation between the two countries.

In a social media post on X, on Sunday, Amir Abdollahian extended warm congratulations on Qatar's National Day, conveying regards to the people, the government, and specifically, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Qatar National Day is a national commemoration of the country’s unification in 1878, celebrated annually on December 18, known as Founder’s Day.

The top Iranian diplomat underscored the significance of close cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Qatar in addressing various international and regional challenges. He highlighted this collaboration as a testament to mutual trust, constituting a valuable asset for the advancement of bilateral relations.

He also expressed hope that Tehran and Doha would leverage their vast potential and capabilities to further improve cooperation in all areas.

Iran and Qatar enjoy close relations in many areas of cooperation. Both countries have adopted similar positions regarding the outbreak of the Israel war on the Gaza Strip. Tehran and Doha called for a ceasefire and respect for human lives in Gaza.

Iran and Qatar have engaged in intense diplomatic efforts over the past month to help stop the Israeli bombardment of the densely-populated strip, where over two million people live.

In November, Amir Abdollahian visited Qatar to meet Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the political bureau chief of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, as well as his Qatari counterpart. Qatar’s Foreign Minister discussed the plan regarding the Gaza situation with Amir Abdollahian and thanked Iran for its pivotal role and valuable efforts in de-escalating the war against Gaza.
