TEHRAN-Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt’s famous play “Partners in Crime” is on stage at Neauphle-le-Chateau Theater in Tehran.

Parisa Moghadam has directed the play and also performs in it along with Behnam Farzam and Omid Ali Rahmani, ILNA reported.

The play is a suspenseful thriller about a couple in search of the truth. It is also a black comedy full of surprises in which light-hearted banter alternates with full-scale war.

The basic dilemma of this drama, a combination of melodrama and thriller, about a love relationship after 15 years of living together, is “can love survive the initial encounter?”

Schmitt weaves the story around two spouses. Gilles, who is suffering from amnesia as the result of an accident, returns from the hospital, and his wife Lisa tries to help him remember his life. From what she tells him, he tries to piece together their existence. But what if Lisa is lying! Can Gilles be sure he is the man she describes, and is she in fact his wife?

In this psychological game of truth and lies spouses review 15 years of their marriage, their love, or what is left of it. Schmitt says that he cleared up the initial dilemma by completing writing the drama, concluding that “maybe love begins when you stop being in love”.

Schmitt, 63, is a Franco–Belgian playwright, short story writer, and novelist, as well as a film director. His plays have been staged in over 50 countries all over the world.

Several plays by Schmitt, including “Enigma Variations,” “Oscar and the Lady in Pink,” “Between Worlds,” and “The Night of Fire” have been performed by various groups in Iran.

“Partners in Crime” will be performed until May 17 at the Neauphle-le-Chateau Theater located at No. 18, Neauphle-le-Chateau St., junction of Razi St.
