Kuwait Ranks Third in Trade With Iran in Region

KUWAIT Advisor to commerce minister Hossein Qasemi said here Thursday that Kuwait ranks third in trade with Iran in the Persian Gulf region, after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia.
Qasemi, also director general of Iran's International Fairs, told IRNA that enthusiastic participation of Iranian businessman and traders in the fairs held in Kuwait and a visible Kuwaiti presence in the Tehran International Trade Fair indicates strong interest on the part of officials of the two countries for expansion of bilateral trade.
In Iran's ninth exclusive fair in Kuwait, 87 countries are taking part. Kuwaiti minister of industry and trade stressed expansion of commercial ties in the opening ceremonies, he said.
Qasemi further said Iran has invited Kuwait to hold an exclusive trade exhibition in Iran.
He stated that Iran and Kuwait share deep historical ties in economic, diplomatic and cultural areas adding shared religion, membership in the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) as well as geographic proximity, all contribute to close relations between the two countries.'' The volume of trade between Iran and Kuwait reached about $100 million in 1999 which was 22 percent higher than in 1998.
The official also said holding exclusive fairs in other countries depends on Iran's expertise in manufacturing of certain goods.
He stated that holding exclusive fairs in Egypt and participating in international exhibitions in Iraq and France are among Iran's plans for presence in international trade fairs this year.
