SHEMIRANAT, Tehran Less than one film is produced annually for every one million people in Iran, the Deputy Head of the Cinematic and Audio-Visual Affairs of the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mahdi Salimi, said here Saturday.
He said the situation could be assessed by comparing it to the situation abroad where two films are produced annually for every one million people.
Salimi said his office was trying to increase the production of films to one-and-a-half for every one million people by the end of the Third Cultural, Political and Economic Development Plan.
He said the plan allocates some Rls.60 billion for construction and completion of the country's cinemas and, hopefully, 110 titles of films would be produced by the end of the plan.
Production of video films would also turned over to the private sector, Salimi said, adding that this would ease the burden on state-owned media.
