BBC: Seven Million Illiterates in Britain

TEHRAN The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) announcing the results of a survey in Britain said that one in every seven British adult citizens is illiterate.

According to the available figures, there are seven million illiterates in Britain.

According to the report, the people who conceive that they know the basics, are not capable of doing arithmetic operations or read simple literary passages.

In this regard, British Prime Minister Tony Blair announced that a sum of 1.5 million pounds would be allotted to literacy campaign by 2004.

The literacy test was carried out on the basis of six simple questions on literature and arithmetic of the primary schools and was answered by adults of different ages and different occupations.
