TEHRAN Azeri President Haider Aliyev's recent statements about his intentions to remain president for life have drawn different reactions from political circles in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Morshed Mohammed Li, a member of Musavat Party, told *** Musavat Novin *** daily that Aliyev's statements contravenes the Azeri Constitution.

The Musavat Party member said that what Aliyev said has drawn angry reactions from his opponents and angered the Azeri nation.

Mohammed Li described the Azeri president's desire as unrealistic and morally unacceptable.

He referred to the weak relationship between the people and the government and said that despite widespread propaganda to the effect that Aliyev is healthy, such statements would reinforce suspicions about the president's poor health.

An official of the People's Front Party, Fazel Qazanfar Oughloo, also said, "We hope the Azeri nation would experience the bright era after Aliyev through presidential elections by the end of the current year."

It is worth noting that the Azeri president, while meeting with the chancellor of Bilxand University in Turkey a few days ago, said that he intended to remain the president of Azerbaijan Republic until the end of his life.
