Officials Make Contradictory Statements on Impeachment of Tehran Mayor

TEHRAN The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) announced on Thursday that the impeachment and dismissal of Tehran Mayor Morteza Alviri was discussed in a closed-door session of the Tehran City Council (TCC) on Wednesday.

According to the news reports, ten of the 13 TCC members who attended the session voted to impeach and dismiss Alviri, although City Councilor Mohammad Atrianfar has denied the reports.

Meanwhile, in an interview with the BBC, Tehran City Councilor Ahmad Hakimipour confirmed the vote to impeach and dismissal of Tehran's mayor.

Considering all this, some analysts have criticized Hakimipour for holding interviews with foreign news agencies rather than the domestic media and have reproached officials for their poor performance in the field of information dissemination and their failure to give authentic news to the people.
