South China Braces for Typhoon Durian

BEIJING China's southern provinces of Guangdong and Guangxi were warned of destructively powerful winds and rains as Typhoon Durian approached land on Monday. Durian, the third typhoon to hit China this year, hit land on Monday morning at the southern tip of Guangdong Province, officials at the provincial Meteorological Bureau said. They told Reuters the bureau predicted torrential rains over most of the province for Wednesday and Thursday with winds at the center of the typhoon reaching 120 kph (75 mph).
