Iran Wins Asian Juniors' Freestyle, Greco-Roman Wrestling Crown

TEHRAN The young adult wrestlers of Iran fighting in the second Asian freestyle and Greco-Roman bouts for 16- and 17-year-olds held here with the participation of 14 countries, grabbed the top titles of the two styles.

The competitions that were held in Shohada-ye Haftom-e Tir gym, Tehran, ended on July 6 during which the wrestlers of second five weights -- 46, 54, 63, 76, and 100 kg -- clashed in the finals. In freestyle, the team of "Iran A" competing with India in a nail-biting struggle, snatched the most coveted title with 78 points and the Indian team collecting 75 points ranked second while "Iran B" finished third, bagging 74 points.

The teams of Kazakhstan, Japan, and Kyrgyzstan with 64, 46, and 35 points stood fourth to sixth respectively, IRNA reported.

In Greco-Roman wrestling competitions, "Iran B" with 84 points hoisted the flag as the anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran echoed round the hall and the teams "Iran A" and Kazakhstan bagging 79 and 74 points respectively ranked second and third.

The fourth to sixth titles went to Kyrgyzstan, Japan, and India with 63, 57, and 50 points respectively.
