AMMAN The national basketball team of Iran arrived here on Sunday night to participate in the West Asian preliminary contests.

The Iranian team comprises head, manager, head coach, coach and 12 players.

Iran will play the host team of Jordan in the inauguration clash.

The competitions are to start on July 11 during which the teams of Jordan, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq will compete for four days in Amir Hamzeh gym, Amman Sports Park.

The West Asian Basketball Federation has invited one judge from Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) each.

According to IRNA, the first two teams of the tournament will be allowed to take part in the finals of Asia Basketball Championships, which are to be held in China in late September.
