Beauties of Lorestan Province
Gohar Lake is located between Doroud and Ali-Goudarz in the midst of the protected Oshtorankouh area, which zooms to 4,150 meters in height.
Gohar lake measuring around 100 hectares, with a length of 2,500 meters, a width of 800 meters, a depth of 28 meters, is located at 2,400 meters from sea level.
The lands surrounding the lake is characterized by special features due to high slopes, and the piles of snow lasting for months. Despite unremarkable vegetation in the area, the variety of floral species, grown around the lake is outstanding.
Various species of wild animals including goats, sheep, brown ears, leopards, swine, wolves, foxes, jackals, rabbits, squirrels, and different species of snakes including cobras, vipers, and adders also inhabit the area.
Oshtorankouh area is also inhabited by various species of birds such as pigeons, partridges, dull-yellow partridges, crows, herons, storks, and other wild birds.
Beside the variety of wild flora and fauna, Gohar Lake is characterized by its rocks, springs, rivers, and permanent glaciers which together create a relaxing and glorious atmosphere.
To reach the lake, a visitor has to take a three-hour hike from the last point where travel by car is possible.
