TEHRAN - Malaysian government advisor on religious affairs Abdul-Hamid Osman said that in the next school year, a new course entitled Islamic Civilization will be taught in elementary and high schools.

In a seminar on government politics attended by teachers of religion, Osman stated that the government has taken this decision after the success of the ministry of education in teaching principles of Islamic beliefs.

He added that teaching Islamic civilization is a way to train successful Muslims who work for the development of society.

He said that teachers of religion in elementary and high schools should use new methods.

Islamic civilization is now part of the history curriculum in Malaysian schools.
