WIESBADEN, Germany -- Computers and cell phones have become standard fixtures for German families with children, a study finds.

Some 88 per cent of couples with two children reported having a computer, says a survey produced by the German Federal Office for Statistics. Fully 79 per cent of families with one child have a computer, and the figure stands at 76 per cent for single parents.

By comparison, only one out of three one-person households reported having a PC. Altogether one of two German households reported having a PC.

Mobile telephones enjoy similar penetration into households with children. While 56 per cent of all private households in Germany claim ownership of a cell phone, the number jumps to 83 per cent for couples with a child.

For families with two children, the percentage reached three out of four. Some 65 per cent of single parents with children reported having a cell phone, DPA reported.
