U.S. Psychological War Unlikely to Turn to Physical Conflict
Rafsanjani told the Fourth Biennial Meeting of Iran's Cultural Attaches Abroad that the U.S. is facing distrust both inside and outside and is trying to win trust by force.
He criticized the U.S. warmongering policies, saying the one trying to enhance its presence on all scenes, cannot consider others with a hostile attitude.
He said the present conditions are the most sensitive era of clash between culture of Islam and revolution and an anti-religious culture and secularism. He added that the conflict has always existed but has today reached its climax.
The Iranian official called the propaganda, launched by the U.S. against Islam as 'unprecedented' both in quality and quantity and said the U.S. propaganda targets Iran. "Of course, this is not something new for us because the Islamic Republic of Iran has since the beginning been facing waves of propaganda," said Rafsanjani.
The EC chairman pointed out that U.S. threats against Iran have today assumed a special form. Today, the U.S. thinks it has no rival and can go ahead unchallenged, he added.
He referred to the economic crisis in the U.S. recently and said the U.S. is attributing its problems to others -- that is a strategy for management of critical conditions -- due to its worsening economic conditions.
He said security issues created anxieties for the U.S. He added that the U.S. plan to provide its security department with more than dlrs 30 billion as well as approval of the budget by the Congress, despite the rivalry with the president, have sent meaningful signals.
Rafsanjani said American forces are the most vulnerable in the world. Today, he added, American forces have the lowest rating in terms of popularity.
Rafsanjani touched on opinion polls conducted in the U.S. recently, saying today, not only the world but also public opinion in the U.S. are pessimistic about the U.S. government.
He referred to a documentary report, broadcast by CNN on growth of Islam, and said despite the post-September 11th restrictions against Muslims and surging attacks by the U.S. and Zionist media against Islam, a news network in the U.S. reports growth of Islam.
With all the restrictions they expected a halt in tendency toward Islam or retreat from approach towards Islam, said Rafsanjani.
Although it is censored, the report expresses concern that U.S. prisons would turn into the center for permanent unrest causing a threat to the U.S., added the EC chairman.
He said that under present circumstances, the U.S. has not chosen its path out of power and affluence, rather due to all the problems and conditions it is facing.
He added that today, the U.S. is in a position to curb the ongoing moves through force, pressure, power and money and win others' trust through force. Whereas, he said, Washington knows it pretty well that trust can be won only through peace and sincerity.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Rafsanjani said that although conditions for presence of the U.S. is now prepared in Iraq to some extent, the public do not trust the country again because it is clear for Iraq that the U.S does not come to serve the Iraqi people but its own interests.
"We should make ourselves less vulnerable and raise people's resistance," said Rafsanjani.
"The U.S. is not reliable for anybody," declared Rafsanjani.
He said Iranian forces should bear in mind that the U.S. has never been their friend. Of course, they are vigilant and are aware of the issue, he added.
He called on the audience to propagate Iranian language and culture and define and publicize the essence of the revolution and Islam abroad.
