Iran Elected for AFC Executive Committee Post

KUALA LUMPUR -- Iran has been voted for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee members for the four-year term at the AFC congress here Wednesday.
Iran was among eight other members countries elected for the post.
These eight countries were the Philippines, Iraq, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, India, Uzbekistan, and Oman.
They will serve in the new AFC Executive Committee for a four-year term starting 2002, IRNA reported.
Mohsen Safaei-Farahani, president of Iran Football Federation is heading Iranian delegation to the congress.
The United Arab Emirates were defeated by Oman in a run-off vote after the two countries were tied in the first round of voting.
Nineteen countries, including Iran were contesting for the position.
