Iranian Official in Moscow for Nuclear Consultations

MOSCOW -- A senior Iranian official arrived in Moscow on Tuesday for three days of consultations with Russian diplomats expected to focus on nuclear non-proliferation issues, Interfax reported.

Zamani Nia, the Iranian Foreign Ministry's General Director for International Policy Issues, would touch on "an extensive range of disarmament and export control issues" during his visit, the news agency said, quoting a Russian source, AFP reported.

His visit comes following Moscow's announcement last month that it planned to expand its nuclear cooperation with Tehran beyond existing projects, despite a serious opposition by Washington.

Russia plans to supply the fuel for Iran's Bushehr nuclear reactor, which is expected to go on line in early 2004.
