DUSHANBE -- Iran's envoy to Tajikistan Nasser Sarmadi-Parsa on Friday called for the betterment of the scientific and academic ties with the Central Asian Republic of Tajikistan.

Speaking in a gathering of officials and scholars at the Tajik Institute for Orientology Studies and the Tajik Sciences Academy, the envoy said there are many historical and cultural bonds between the two nations.

The joint research works by the Iranian and Tajik scholars and researchers could bring about invaluable results, he noted.

Head of the Tajik Institute for Orientology Studies Dr. Joreh Beik Nazriev was pleased over the pace of progress in the scientific and educational relations between Iran and Tajikistan.

He said more contacts between the researchers and scientific circles of the two countries would bring closer the two nations and would deepen their knowledge on each other's culture and civilization.

He stated that in view of the wide range of commonalities as for the culture, history, language and religion, the Iran-Tajikistan scientific, cultural and research cooperation are expected to further improve.

The two sides examined ways and means to implement various already inked memoranda of understanding between Iran and Tajikistan on the education, research and transfer of technology.

Sarmadi-Parsa said Iran and Tajikistan enjoy the largest number of commonalities in tradition, custom and culture and this would help broaden mutual ties, IRNA reported.

Iran has already announced its readiness to admit Tajik students in graduate and post-graduate schools, teachers training courses as well as research projects and for compiling educational books for Tajikistan's universities.
