TEHRAN -- Tehran-based Association of Disabled on Tuesday released a blank statement to protest what they called neglect for the affairs of the disabled community, reported IRNA.

The managing Director Association Hashem Hosseini Shahidi said that the disabled community expects the government and the people to seriously take up emergency plans to help the specialized organizations, either governmental or non-governmental, in charge of providing services to the disabled community.

"Currently, the major part of the budget of the Welfare Organization is earmarked for the disabled community, but, we are too far from meeting the expectations of the disabled," Hosseini Shahidi said.

He said that the state Welfare Organization covers about 75,000 disabled members in Tehran and called on the nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to extend financial or expertise assistance to 52 associations working for the disabled community.
