PARIS -- Iranian Ambassador to Paris Sadeq Kharrazi here Monday stressed the need to promote the culture of "dialogue among civilizations".

"At time when the world is witnessing an increasing trend of agitation and anxiety, promotion of the culture of "dialogue among civilizations" is a very important issue," Kharrazi said on the sidelines of Iranian Cultural Week, which opened in Issi, France on Saturday.

"Observing Iranian Cultural Week will promote dialogue among civilizations and cultures," he added.

He expressed hope that a culture of dialogue and tolerance would replace the existing inequality that characterizes relationships in nations and in varying cultures and religions.

The Iranian official stressed that the Persian world, stretching from the Persian Gulf to trans-Oceania and the Caucasus, as well as Francophone countries can play significant roles in the spread of the culture of dialogue and understanding.

The Cultural Week's agenda includes screening of several Iranian features and short films as well as a photograph exhibition on the various facets of Iranian culture.

Week-long seminars on "Today's Iran," "Armenians in Iran," and "Art Books in Iran" commenced on Saturday attended by officials and experts from both states.

A number of Iranian traditional music groups have also been lined up to perform several concerts during the week.
