Iran, Afghanistan to sign MoU on telecommunications

TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Afghan Deputy Minister of Communications Beryani Hessam and managing director of Afghan Telecom will visit Tehran in the near future to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the telecommunication sector.

An official from Iran's Infrastructural Communication Company told IRNA that the MoU will include establishment of a direct fiber optic communication channel between Mashhad and Herat, Iran's readiness to transit the telecommunication required by Afghanistan via various routes in Iran and setting up a support route for the channel.

The per-minute cost of telephone contacts between the two countries will also be specified in the document, which is scheduled to be inked by the managing directors of the Afghan and Iranian companies.
