TEHRAN - Electricity exchange capacity between Iran and Azerbaijan Republic will reach 600 MW once the joint ongoing projects are completed, Iran Energy Minister Parviz Fattah told the Persian service of IRNA on Wednesday.

“Over $75m is allocated to increase the current 200 MW and SANIR of Iran is in charge to push the project forward from the Iranian side,” the minister said after holding a meeting with Azerbaijan First Deputy PM Yaqub Ayubov, adding time difference in peak energy consumption, Iran in summer and Azerbaijan in winter, has created both sides with an opportunity to alternate the exchange ‘in agreeable cycles’.

At the end of the meeting, Ayubov called for more cooperation in both electricity and water projects, stipulating dam construction ventures on Aras, border river between the two countries, were also the focus of the talks with Iranian minister. ML/MA END MNA
