Mahdavi Kani will be a contester in upcoming Assembly of Experts elections

TEHRAN, Dec. 24 (MNA) -- Ayatollah Mohammad-Reza Mahdavi Kani will stand for the upcoming Assembly of Experts elections, Iranian Students News Agency reported on Monday.
Mahdavi Kani, who has recently been re-elected as the secretary general of the Combatant Clergy Association (CCA) for another five-year term, will contest the elections as the candidate of the conservative parties.Mahdavi Kani
The next round of Assembly of Experts elections and eighth parliamentary elections will be held simultaneously on March 14.
The senior cleric was Iran's interim prime minister from September 2 to October 29, 1981, appointed by a provisional presidential council, after the assassination of president Mohammad-Ali Rajai and prime minister Mohammad-Javad Bahonar. Before that, Mahdavi Kani was interior minister at the cabinet of prime minister Mohammad-Ali Rajai.
