Mahdavi Kani will contest Assembly of Experts elections

TEHRAN -- Ayatollah Mohammad-Reza Mahdavi Kani will stand for the Assembly of Experts by-elections, Iranian Students News Agency reported on Monday.
Mahdavi Kani accepted to run for the assembly at the insistence of Combatant Clergy Association (CCA), the Teachers Society of the Oom Seminary, and other conservative groups. Mahdavi Kani was recently reelected as the CCA secretary general of the for another five-year term.The Assembly of Experts by-elections and eighth parliamentary elections will be held simultaneously on March 14.
Mahdavi Kani was Iran's interim prime minister from September 2 to October 29, 1981, appointed by a provisional presidential council, after the assassination of president Mohammad-Ali Rajai and prime minister Mohammad-Javad Bahonar.
