TEHRAN (ISNA)- Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Ján Kubiš expressed hope that members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and UNECE could implement shared projects through investment and economic exchanges.

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on the sidelines of the 10th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday, Kubiš outlined Iran’s strategic status and said the country’s all-out connection with Central Asia, southwestern and west of the continent and the Persian Gulf make it necessary for the UNECE to follow a correct management for transportation and gas and oil pipeline projects.
Mottaki pointed to the ECO summit in Tehran next week and said members of the organization can cooperate on transportation, energy and commerce with other regional economic organizations including the UNECE.
He then referred to Iran’s railroad project with Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey and Iraq and expressed optimism Iran could activate its business and commerce through cooperation with the European economic organizations.
He then clarified Iran’s capabilities for goods swap and connecting gas and oil pipelines from the country to Europe and said if Iran’s diversified energy and transit capabilities are regarded and new approaches are taken, a suitable ground will be made to secure interests of both Iran and Europe.
Meanwhile, Mottaki referred to the global economic downturn and said the issue will be resolved if all influential countries across the world cooperate in devising and implementing a new solution, because limiting solutions to some certain countries will fail to tackle the global economic turmoil.
