LONDON (Dow Jones)--Iran is set to import its first consignment of gas oil - 350 millions liters - by the end of September to cover increased power needs in the winter, a state news agency said Saturday.

Iran’s oil ministry agency SHANA quoted the managing director of oil derivatives at the National Iranian Oil Co. as saying there has been no gas oil imports to the country since the beginning of the Iranian year March 20.
“With the arrival of the cold season, consumption is expected to rise to (120 million liters per day) at peak times,” he said.
“Since the beginning of the year until today there has been a daily increase of 5.8 million liters of gas oil produced at local refineries,” a 6% growth year-on-year, he added.
Iran faces potential challenges over its oil-products imports as U.S. lawmakers prepare to vote on Iranian sanctions that will target this segment of the oil business.
